What I’m Playing - November 2011

Dungeons of Dreadmor

I never played dungeon crawlers as a kid, and after playing this I’d say that was probably for the best because I don’t think I would have left the house. At it’s heart it’s a solid challenging dungeon crawl with tons of weapons and replay-ability. (I think I just described ALL dungeon crawlers.) But, what I imagine sets this one apart from the rest is the hilarious sense of humor.

Not only does it not take itself seriously, but it completely thrives off of making a joke out of everything it possibly can. Weapons, characters, items, signs, EYEBROWS. You name it - and there is likely a joke or reference attached to it. One of my favorite games of all time. Buy it, it’s cheap!

Dig-N-Rig

This is a free game created by students at DigiPen university. You take the place of a robot armed with digging tools and you set out to reach the core of the earth. On your way you will collect the resources you get while digging to buy upgrades and tools to help you achieve your goal. A blast to play, and it’s completely free. Give it a try.

Voxatron

Great little indie title created with voxels. Controlling it feels a bit like a dual-stick shooter such as Geometry Wars mixed with a 3D platformer. However, it is NOT a dual-stick shooter (Yet?). While I agree the controls feel a bit odd, I completely understand why the creator made them that way. (Jumping + Dual Sticks = Awkward) If you’re interested, you can “pay what you want” at www.humblebundle.com!
